Galvanic corrosion, stray current, weld integrity, aluminium surveyors must know what wood and GRP surveyors never encounter. We do. ABYC Professional Member, Bodrum-based, fully independent.
An aluminium yacht survey requires skills that have no equivalent in GRP or wood survey. Galvanic corrosion is invisible until it is catastrophic. Stray current corrosion in marina environments can destroy a hull in months. Weld defects from 10 years ago become structural failures today.
We carry and use ultrasonic thickness measurement equipment on every aluminium survey. We test the bonding and earthing system. We measure sacrificial anode condition and placement. These are not optional extras, they are the core of an aluminium survey.
100+ point hull plating thickness survey. Identifies hidden corrosion and wastage not visible through paint. Mandatory for any aluminium pre-purchase survey. Full thickness map in the report.
Full bonding system inspection. Zinc anode condition, placement, and remaining life. Isolation of bronze and stainless hardware. Stray current testing in marina environment if possible.
Visual inspection of all accessible welds. Dye penetrant testing where cracking is suspected. Frame-to-plating welds, the most common failure point in older aluminium vessels.
Paint adhesion testing. Identification of underfilm corrosion. Assessment of antifouling system suitability, copper-based antifouling is incompatible with bare aluminium.
For aluminium builds in Turkish yards. Alloy grade verification (5083-H111), weld procedure qualification, paint system protocol (Sa2.5 blast, 4-hour window, DFT verification).
Supervision of aluminium refit work. Weld repair, plate replacement, re-blasting and recoating. We verify the paint system is followed, the most common source of premature failure.
