A well-executed refit extends the life of a wooden yacht by 15–25 years and transforms its market position. We supervise refits in Turkish yards with the same discipline and independence we bring to new builds — weekly visits, full documentation, no surprises.
Turkish yards — particularly in Bodrum, Marmaris, and Bozburun — offer some of the finest wooden boat craftsmen in the world. Our role is to ensure their work meets your specification, on time and on budget.
Full replanning of deteriorated hull sections, re-caulking of carvel seams, garboard replacement, frame sistering where localised rot is identified.
Complete engine change including bed modification, shaft alignment, shaft seal replacement, and new exhaust system. Volvo Penta, Yanmar, and Cummins specialists on call.
Full rewire to ABYC E-11 standard — new distribution panel, battery bank, shore power inlet, LED navigation lights, and chart plotter integration.
Replacement of all through-hull fittings with bronze or Marelon equivalents, new seacocks, and verification of accessibility from the cabin.
Standing rigging replacement, new furling system, boom vang, traveller, and running rigging. Mast step inspection and reinforcement where required.
New teak cabin sole, joinery refurbishment, upholstery, navigation station rebuild, and galley upgrade. Custom to client specification.
Full paint strip, epoxy barrier coat, and fresh topsides finish. Name and boot top. Varnish work on cap rail and cockpit coamings.
New stanchions with proper backing plates, windlass, cleats, deck blocks, and traveller. All hardware bedded in Sikaflex 291.
Post-refit survey and certification to ABYC standard. Insurance-accepted condition survey. Turkish flag state documentation updated.
Not every refit is the same. We supervise all of these — and tailor our engagement to the scope, not the other way around.
Addressing critical findings from a survey — seacocks, electrical deficiencies, structural problems. Typically required for insurance renewal or flag registration.
Improving the vessel's appearance and interior quality to raise charter rates or resale value. Typically before remarketing or upgrading to charter-grade.
Engine replacement or overhaul, new generator, updated propulsion. For vessels whose mechanical systems are life-expired or underperforming for charter or passage use.
A comprehensive refit bringing a vessel from tired to charter-ready. Covers all systems, structure, cosmetics, and certification. Largest investment — highest return.
Our refit supervision follows the same structured process as our new build supervision — because the risks of poor supervision are just as real in a refit as in a new vessel.
We begin with a comprehensive condition survey — not to sell you a refit, but to tell you exactly what needs doing, what is optional, and what can wait. This survey forms the basis of the scope of work document and prevents scope creep.
We translate the survey findings into a precise scope of work with itemised costs. You decide what to include and what to defer. We advise on priority (safety-critical first, cosmetic last) and realistic budget ranges for each line item.
We place the refit with the yard best suited to the specific scope — not necessarily the cheapest, but the one with the right craftsmen for your particular combination of work. We brief the yard in writing; ambiguity is the enemy of a budget.
From the first day the vessel is lifted until she returns to water. We visit weekly, photograph everything, document deviations from scope, and send you a written report. You never need to ask for an update.
On completion we carry out a post-refit condition survey and attend the first sea trial. Any outstanding items are documented and the yard does not receive final payment until they are resolved. You receive the complete refit file at handover.
All costs are for yard work in Bodrum or Marmaris, excluding haul-out (typically €800–€2,500 depending on vessel size). Material costs vary; these ranges reflect typical 2026 labour + materials.

"A refit without independent supervision is a conversation between the yard and the vessel. You are not in that conversation."
In a refit — unlike a new build — the structure of the vessel is already there, and the yard is working on someone else's creation. The temptation to cut corners, to patch rather than fix, to choose the faster option over the correct one, is real. Without an independent authority physically present and asking the right questions, the vessel owner has no reliable way of knowing what was actually done.
We have supervised refits where yards presented a "completed" hull replanting that, on inspection, had used the wrong timber species, missed two frames, and left the garboard seam uncompounded. None of this was visible from the outside. That inspection was worth more than the entire supervision fee.
We have active relationships with 8 yards in the Bodrum peninsula. We know who does good hull work and who excels at interiors.
The traditional boatbuilding villages around the Bozburun Peninsula have craftsmen whose families have been building wooden vessels for generations.
Several quality yards operate in the Göcek area, well positioned for vessels wintering in the Göcek gulf. We cover these with a small travel supplement.
Tell us about your vessel, where it is, and what you believe it needs. We will arrange a pre-refit survey and give you an honest assessment of scope, cost, and timeline — before you commit to anything.
