Step 01
Vessel type
The hull form is the single largest driver of base cost. Gulets carry a premium for their beam and interior volume.
Step 02
Length overall (LOA)
Cost per metre increases non-linearly above 22m — structural complexity, materials volume, and yard specialisation all climb steeply.
18 metres
Typically 4–5 cabins
12m18m24m30m36m
Step 03
Hull construction method
Construction method affects both build cost and long-term maintenance. Cold-moulded epoxy carries a 15–25% premium but reduces maintenance costs over time.
Step 04
Primary timber specification
Teak carries the largest cost premium — both for material and the labour required to work it. Iroko delivers comparable durability at significantly lower cost.
Step 05
Specification level
Interior finish is where cost ranges diverge most dramatically. The difference between a standard and bespoke interior on the same hull can exceed €400,000 on a 24m vessel.
Step 06
Additional specifications
Select all that apply. Each adds to base cost. Figures shown are typical additions for a 20–24m vessel.

What the calculator does not include
Budget for these separately
🏛
VAT & flag registration
Turkish VAT (KDV) at 20% applies to the build contract if the vessel remains in Turkish waters. EU flag registration and export structures can legally mitigate this — requires specialist legal advice. Budget €8,000–€20,000 for legal and registration fees.
📋
Design & naval architecture
Custom designs from a qualified naval architect cost €15,000–€60,000 depending on complexity. Many Turkish yards work from established design variants at lower cost. If you want a truly original hull form, factor this in from the start.
🚢
Delivery & sea trials
Delivery crew from Bodrum to your home port: €8,000–€25,000 depending on destination. Insurance during delivery: 0.1–0.2% of vessel value per voyage. Sea trials and commissioning: typically included in build contract but confirm in writing.
⚠️
The 15% contingency rule
Every experienced commissioner adds 15% to their budget for scope changes, material upgrades, and unforeseen issues. This is not pessimism — it is standard practice. A build that runs to budget without any changes is the exception, not the rule.
🔍
Second-hand: survey before everything
Never make an offer on a wooden vessel without an independent pre-purchase survey. Osmosis, moisture ingress, hidden structural issues, and system failures are not visible on a viewing. Survey cost (€950–€2,400) is the cheapest insurance you will ever buy.
📅
Annual running costs
Plan for 8–12% of vessel value per year in operating costs: crew (if any), marina fees, insurance, annual maintenance, antifouling, and survey. A well-maintained wooden vessel depreciates far more slowly than GRP — quality builds hold value for 30+ years.
