Leopard catamarans are built in Cape Town, South Africa, by Robertson and Caine.
1. Getting to Know Leopard
Developed over many years alongside the world's large charter fleets, the models are built around durability and ease of handling.
Many are delivered across the ocean under their own sail, and they are common in the Mediterranean and in Turkey in both charter and private use.
2. A design born for charter
Leopard's line was shaped by heavy use, so many used examples have a charter history. On survey we read how many seasons, under what maintenance regime, and what work was done at fleet exit.
On forward-cockpit models (e.g. 45 and up), forward cockpit drainage and sealing around the front windows join the list.
3. Points We Pay Attention To
These are not claims of defects. They are the places we spend extra time on boats of this make; every boat is judged on its own use and maintenance history.
Leopard 40, 44, 45, 50 and others
- Saildrive seals in both hulls, replacement dates and engine hours.
- Steering system and bearings.
- Underside of the bridgedeck and bulkhead attachments.
- Door and locker alignment, as an indirect sign of structural movement.
- Interior, pumps and fresh-water system wear from charter use.
- On forward-cockpit models, drainage and front window sealing.
4. Owning One in Turkey
On ex-fleet boats the operator's maintenance records are often well kept; we ask for them to compare against what we find.
Ask for the service records, invoices and any earlier survey report before the survey; work without records is noted as "could not be verified".
