Yacht Survey & Delivery
İzmir, Turkey
Buying a boat at Levent Marina, Teos, Çeşme, Port Alaçatı or Oasis Marina in Yeni Foça? We plan the haul-out, a week of drying and the sea trial as one schedule, and send an English report in 2-3 working days. No travel charge anywhere in the İzmir area.
İzmir and the Northern Aegean present unique challenges for boats. The meltemi winds blow harder and longer here than anywhere else on the Turkish coast. Winters are colder and wetter than in Bodrum or Marmaris. Boats that have lived through multiple Northern Aegean seasons carry the evidence in their rigging, hull and electrical systems.
Findings we meet often in the İzmir area: rigging fatigue on boats sailed in the strong summer northerlies off Çeşme, corrosion hidden under fouling on boats kept in the gulf, leaking deck fittings on boats moored against the afternoon imbat, and winter lay-up damage on boats that have stood ashore at Teos.
An independent survey carried out to ABYC standards documents every system with photographs and clear priorities. It's the difference between buying a boat and buying a repair project.
Findings are written exactly as found, whoever commissions the survey; the report belongs to the client and is not shared without their written instruction.

Surveying in İzmir: marinas, haul-out and local points
For survey planning the İzmir coast falls into four areas. Inside the gulf (Levent Marina, Alsancak, Karşıyaka, Güzelbahçe) boats are berthed in the city but there is no travel lift. On the Çeşme peninsula (Çeşme Marina, Port Alaçatı, Urla, Mordoğan, Karaburun) wind and charter use shape the boats. To the south, Teos Marina in Seferihisar is where İzmir boats spend the winter ashore. To the north are Oasis Marina in Yeni Foça, opened in 2023, Eski Foça and Dikili. Where the boat lies decides where and when it is hauled.
Where boats are hauled
| Facility | Haul-out | Capacity | Survey note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Levent Marina Üçkuyular, Balçova | No travel lift; the yard hauls on a sledge | About 40 boats ashore | For the hull and moisture readings the boat is usually hauled at Teos or Çeşme. |
| Güzelbahçe Fishing harbour | Municipal slipway (2025) | Small and mid-size boats | Practical for outboard and wooden boats; not for larger yachts. |
| Teos Marina Sığacık, Seferihisar | 75 t travel lift; 25 t trailer | 480 afloat, 80 ashore | Most İzmir boats for sale in winter stand ashore here; the drying time may already be done. |
| Çeşme Marina Çeşme town | 80 t travel lift | About 400 boats, 8-60 m | A port of entry, so foreign-flagged boats can clear in and out here. |
| Oasis Marina Yeni Foça | 110 t travel lift; 8 m dock | 245 afloat, 100 ashore | The largest lift north of the gulf; wide enough for catamarans. |
Figures as of October 2026, from the marinas and public sources. Send the facility the boat's weight, beam and draught in writing before booking. All facilities are in the marina and boatyard directory.
What we look at closely here
- Gulf water and the underwater hull. The inner Gulf of İzmir is warm and nutrient-rich, so fouling grows fast and anodes go quickly. On boats berthed in the city we look under the fouling at the propeller, shaft, P-bracket and seacocks for corrosion.
- Imbat and mooring loads. The westerly imbat comes into the gulf every summer afternoon and loads a moored boat from the same side day after day. We check cleats, bollards and fairleads where they meet the deck with the moisture meter; leaks often start there.
- Shallows and grounding marks. The Gediz delta, the Urla islands and the Karaburun shore are shallow. We inspect the keel-to-hull joint, keel bolts, rudder and forefoot for grounding damage; a crack at the keel joint is graded A in the report.
- Wind on the Çeşme peninsula. Strong northerlies can blow for days in summer. On yachts sailed here we look closely at rigging terminals, the mast step, the windlass and UV and seam wear on the sails.
- Charter history. Boats leaving charter fleets at Çeşme and Teos are often for sale. We read engine hours, heads and water systems, the interior and repair marks against how hard the boat has been used.
- Winter ashore. On boats that have wintered at Teos we check how tanks, seacocks, batteries and the engine cooling were laid up, and note frost and long-storage marks.
A typical schedule
| Day | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0 | Quote and booking: where the boat is, afloat or ashore, and where it will be hauled. |
| 1 | Haul-out. We see the hull before it is washed, then it is left to dry. Deck, interior and systems inspection starts the same day. |
| 8 | After a week of drying the hull is mapped for moisture and sounded; the boat is launched for the sea trial. |
| 10-11 | 70+ page photo report in English, every finding graded A-B-C with a cost estimate. |
If the boat has already been ashore and dry at Teos for a week, inspection, moisture readings and sea trial can all happen in the same week.
Planning
There is no travel charge in İzmir. In the quote, haul-out, slipway and crane charges are listed separately at the marina's own rates.
Harbours that take yachts
| Harbour | Depth | Berthing and facilities | For yachts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Urla harbour | 3-5 m | About 60 boats; boats anchor, and inside the main breakwater is the best spot for yachts. | Draught up to about 2.5 m; yachts use the inside of the main breakwater. |
| Karaburun | About 3 m | Sheltered fishing harbour; boats anchor. Space for yachts in summer; run by the fisheries cooperative. | Draught up to about 2.5 m. |
| Eski Foça | 3-5 m at the quay | Well sheltered; boats berth on lazy lines. The town has engine, electrical and wood craftsmen and a slipway yard. | Draught up to about 2.5 m. |
Only harbours that take yachts are listed; places suited only to small boats are left out. The draught limit allows about half a metre under the keel at the shallowest berth; a length limit is given where the source states one. Space varies by season, so call the harbour operator before arriving, especially in summer. The afloat parts of a survey can be done in these harbours; the underwater hull needs a separate haul-out.
Service, parts and logistics
Trades and service
İzmir is a large industrial and port city; engine, electrical and stainless work can be done by services in the city. The Teos and Çeşme marina yards also handle maintenance and repair. General jobs such as machining, welding, hydraulic hoses and upholstery can be done in the city's industrial area.
Parts, materials and accessories
Chandleries and parts suppliers are in the city; imported parts usually come via İstanbul.
Travel and logistics
İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport is close to the city. İzmir is a strong industrial and service city; general work and most parts are on site, specialist yacht gear from İstanbul quickly.
Repair planning
If you want a recommendation for repairing a finding, we can suggest trades; the work is invoiced directly to you, and we never sell repairs on a boat we surveyed. If a repair depends on parts, the lead time is added to the haul-out and delivery schedule.

Everything You Need to Know
About Buying a Yacht in Turkey
Teos Marina (75 t), Çeşme Marina (80 t) and Oasis Marina in Yeni Foça (110 t) have travel lifts. Levent Marina in the city has none; boats are hauled on a sledge, and Güzelbahçe has a municipal slipway for small boats.
No. Our base is in Dikili, in İzmir province, so there is no travel charge at İzmir-area marinas. For moisture readings the boat should dry ashore for at least a week; the report is delivered in 2-3 working days.
The afloat inspection, systems checks and sea trial are done at Levent. For the hull and moisture readings the boat is hauled at Teos or Çeşme; the short hop out of the gulf is added to the schedule.
Yes. Oasis Marina in Yeni Foça has a 110 t travel lift, so haul-out, drying and moisture readings are done there. For a boat on lazy lines in Eski Foça the afloat inspection is done in place and the haul-out is planned at Yeni Foça.
If it has been ashore for at least a week, no extra drying is needed: inspection, moisture readings and sea trial can be done in the same week. The launch for the sea trial is booked with the marina.
No. If you can come, we recommend joining the sea trial. If not, the photos and measurement tables in the report show the boat's condition as clearly as seeing it yourself, and we answer your questions in writing.
Yes. Our skippered deliveries run along the Turkish coast between Istanbul and Fethiye. Planning the survey and the delivery together records the boat's condition before it goes to sea.
