Local equipment supply

Time and cost advantages; quality with the right choice.‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍

Turkey's yacht-building industry has grown with a wide local supply chain: stainless hardware, timber interiors, upholstery, paint, switchboards and much custom fabrication. Local supply saves time and cost; chosen well, it does not compromise quality.

What is commonly sourced locally

In yacht building and refit in Turkey, stainless hardware, rails and bow platforms, timber interiors and doors, upholstery and cushions, canopies and biminis, switchboards and much custom fabrication are sourced from local makers. For this work, local supply makes made-to-measure production and short lead times possible.

Material quality

Not every material performs the same at sea. For stainless, the right grade and welding and polishing workmanship; for timber, moisture content and a suitable finish; for upholstery, fabric and foam that stand up to water and sun decide a part's life. Material grade is written into the order and checked on delivery.

Measuring and fitting

For custom parts, getting the measurement right is the most critical step. Where possible the maker measures on the boat; the installation interface and fixing points are shown on a drawing. A part made to the wrong size loses both time and money.

Warranty and service

One advantage of working with a local maker is quick service when a problem arises. Warranty terms and service times are written into the order.

Documents

For equipment requiring conformity, documents are requested; on boats built to class, the society's approval requirements are checked separately.

Records

The maker's name, order and delivery dates and material details go into the handover file; if a replacement or repair is needed later, that information saves time.‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍

Samples

For finishes such as upholstery fabric, varnish colour or stainless polish, a sample approved before production avoids disappointment on delivery.

References

Seeing a maker's work on another boat, a year or two after delivery, shows how it has stood up to real use.

Local makers have their pre-season rush too; ordering early keeps delivery in step with the refit schedule and avoids last-minute compromises.

A lasting relationship

A long relationship with a good local supplier saves time and money on later refits too; the supplier knows the boat's dimensions, material preferences and the owner's expectations. That accumulated knowledge gives faster, more accurate results on every new job, and makes small repairs simple to arrange.

The order also states delivery date, payment terms and the acceptance check; shortfalls are notified in writing and the final payment held until they are closed.

Fair to both sides

That arrangement protects both the owner and a supplier who does good work: expectations are written down, checks are agreed and payment follows delivery of what was ordered, with no room for misunderstanding on either side.‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍

Clear orders make good suppliers even better partners.

Good work deserves clear terms, and clear terms attract good work in return.

Keep the supplier's details in the boat's file, next to the drawings of what they made.
