When you buy a boat, a seller or broker may tell you "this boat has a SurveyYat report". You can ask here whether the report really came from us, belongs to that boat and has not been changed.
1. Verification request
2. Why verify?
- The report may belong to another boat or be copied from another boat's report.
- It may be old; the boat may have been damaged or changed since.
- Only part may be shown, with the finding list removed.
- The report may have been altered.
3. What we share and what we don't
A report belongs to the client who commissioned it. On a verification request we can tell you whether we prepared a report for the date and boat you give. We do not share a report's contents or findings with third parties without the owner's written permission. See the terms of service.
If you want the contents verified, ask the seller to give us written permission; we can then compare your copy with our record.
4. What you can check yourself
- Is it the whole report? Identification, scope and limits, summary and finding list should all be there.
- Date: how old is it? A report older than a season does not show today's condition.
- Identity: do model, year and serial numbers match the boat?
- Photos: are the boat, marina and season in the photos consistent with the report?
Whatever the answer, a current survey commissioned in your own name is the safest basis for a purchase: pre-purchase survey.
