X-Yachts was founded in Denmark in 1979 and quickly became one of the recognised names in performance sailing with its first model, the X-79.
1. Getting to Know X-Yachts
Today its Xp (performance), Xc (cruising) and X ranges stand for boats that are fast yet comfortable.
It appeals to everyone from club racers to long-distance cruisers, and in Turkey it is well known in racing circles.
2. The steel frame inside the hull
A known structural feature of X-Yachts is the galvanised steel frame, laminated into the hull, that carries keel and rig loads. It is a strong way of spreading loads into the hull.
On survey the visible parts of this frame and the bilge are inspected closely for surface rust and coating condition, especially on boats that have held water in the bilge for long periods.
3. Points We Pay Attention To
These are not claims of defects. They are the places we spend extra time on boats of this make; every boat is judged on its own use and maintenance history.
Xp and models with racing use
- Rig, terminals and mast step.
- Keel bolts and the visible parts of the steel frame.
- Steering system and bearings.
- Winches, clutches and running rigging.
Xc and cruising models

- Sealing at deck hardware and windows.
- Machinery and systems.
4. Owning One in Turkey
On boats with a racing history, the sail inventory and rig records are worth asking for. Parts come from Denmark.
Ask for the service records, invoices and any earlier survey report before the survey; work without records is noted as "could not be verified".
