Absolute was founded in the early 2000s in the Piacenza area of Italy, a young but fast-growing motor yacht brand.
1. Getting to Know Absolute
With its Navetta, Flybridge and Coupé ranges, it quickly found its place in the Mediterranean with generous volume and modern lines.
It is one of the builders that use pod drives (IPS) widely, which shapes the survey approach.
2. The pod-drive checklist
On pod systems, bellows, anodes, oil-change records and the joystick control system are at the centre of the survey. Service intervals are compared with the maker's recommendations using the records.
On the sea trial, manoeuvring, joystick response and system temperatures under load are measured.
3. Points We Pay Attention To
These are not claims of defects. They are the places we spend extra time on boats of this make; every boat is judged on its own use and maintenance history.
Navetta, Flybridge and Coupé
- Pod bellows, anodes and service records.
- Joystick and dynamic positioning system where fitted.
- Generator and air-conditioning hours.
- Sealing of large glazed areas.
- Hydraulic platform.
4. Owning One in Turkey
Access to authorised service for the pods and a tidy record are worth checking before buying.
Ask for the service records, invoices and any earlier survey report before the survey; work without records is noted as "could not be verified".
5. Sea trial on an IPS-equipped Absolute
On a pod-driven boat the sea trial is not just a speed run. On an Absolute we follow this order:
- Berthing and leaving the marina on the joystick; response time and noise in every direction.
- Full-load rpm offshore, temperatures for each pod and the alarm history read from the display.
- Vibration and knocking in tight turns and when manoeuvring astern.
- Back ashore: checking around the pods and the aft compartment for oil or water.
The fault log on the displays can show past alarms the seller did not mention; it is photographed and added to the report.
6. Documents to ask for before you buy
- Dealer pod service records: oil, bellows and anode change dates.
- Engine hours and the latest service invoice.
- Generator and air-conditioning maintenance records.
- Hydraulic platform service record and the handover file.
