Lagoon is the catamaran you see most in Turkish and Greek charter fleets, and many used Lagoons on the market have a charter past.
1. Why a Separate Guide for Lagoon?
So the survey starts with how many seasons, in which fleet and how the boat was looked after, before the hull itself.
Common models: Lagoon 380, 40, 42, 450, 46, 50.
2. What We Look at Closely
On top of the standard survey scope, these are the points we pay particular attention to on a Lagoon. They are not faults of the make; they are where findings most often appear on boats of this type and use.
Bridgedeck and slamming area
The underside of the bridgedeck takes the most load when waves hit. It is sounded for delamination and checked inside for cracking.
Bulkhead and stiffener bonding
The tabbing of bulkheads to the hulls is examined; a failing bond can show up inside as sticking doors and creaking.
Saildrive diaphragm and seals
We ask when the saildrive diaphragms were last replaced against the maker's interval, inspect them externally, and run both engines under load separately.
Front beam and forestay attachment
The front beam's connection to the hulls is checked for corrosion and cracking, together with the fittings carrying forestay load.
Charter wear
Winches, windlass, fairleads, sails, galley and heads. On a hard-worked boat these are assessed as a combined budget, not one by one.
Rudders and bearings
Play in both rudders and bearing condition are checked by hand ashore and by helm behaviour at sea.
Points We Pay Attention To on This Make
These are not claims of defects. They are the places we spend extra time on boats of this build; every boat is judged on its own use and maintenance history.
Lagoon catamarans
- The forward bulkhead and its attachments: the builder runs its own inspection and reinforcement programme for the Lagoon 450, and we ask for the record of that check and any reinforcement.
- Slamming marks under the bridgedeck.
- Saildrive seals in both hulls and their replacement dates.
- Rudder stocks and bearings on each side.
- Bulkhead, door and locker alignment, as an indirect sign of structural movement.
- Generator and air-conditioning hours.
