Quotation
Review

A factor of two between three quotations does not mean one is expensive, it means they describe different jobs.‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌

Three yards, three quotations, and a factor of two between them. That does not mean one is expensive, it usually means the three describe different jobs. The cheapest quotation is generally the narrowest, and the difference returns as extras once work has started.

Quotation review is the work of bringing them onto one footing. Only there does it become clear which is genuinely the cheapest.‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌

Why They Cannot Be Compared

What you seeWhat sits underneath
One is far cheaperNarrower scope: preparation, stripping, paint or materials may be excluded
Items named differentlyThe same job under different headings; one split it in two, another merged it
No material brands in oneWhich resin, which paint, which cable, it drives the price directly
Different durationsHardstanding and crane costs rise with time; the short-looking job may run long
Vague warrantyA warranty without stated scope and period is not a warranty
Different payment plansA front-loaded plan increases your risk, not the yard's

How We Review

  1. Common scope table: every quotation's items reduced to a single table. What appears in one and not another is marked.
  2. Missing items: exclusions listed and priced, producing a comparable total.
  3. Method check: does the described method actually solve the problem? In osmosis work, for instance, is there a drying period and a verification condition?
  4. Material verification: are the named products suitable, checked against data sheets.
  5. Time and cost: duration-linked items (hardstanding, crane, accommodation) added to the total.
  6. Commercial clauses: payment plan, delay terms, warranty and variation procedure compared.
  7. Questions list: for each quotation, the open points to put to that yard, in writing.
What you get: one comparison table and a questions list per quotation. We do not tell you which yard to choose, we show you what each one covers. The decision is yours, and since we take no commission from any yard, there is no interest behind our reading.

When It Pays

Frequently Asked Questions

It is usually the narrowest. If preparation, stripping, materials or paint are excluded, the difference returns as extras once work has begun, and at that point you have no leverage.
No. We show what each covers; the choice is yours. Taking no commission from any yard, we have no side to steer you towards.
At least three. Two do not compare, they just give two prices. Three show which one sits at an extreme.
Yes, though it is harder, because there is no common footing to reduce them to. With a specification the review is faster and more certain.
